   AIMedivation Inc. and Medivation Prostate Therapeutics Inc. filed this intellectual property dispute in May 2011 in San Francisco Superior Court in case CGC-11-510715 against the Regents of the University of California, Aragon Pharmaceuticals Inc., Johnson & Johnson, Janssen Research & Development LLC, Aisling Capital, and researcher Richard Heyman. Medivation alleged that the University and its spinout Aragon wrongfully developed enzalutamide (later sold as Xtandi), a breakthrough prostate cancer treatment, by using UC research and inventor Richard Heyman under agreements that gave Medivation rights to the drug. Latham & Watkins represented one party and served the defendants in May and June 2011. The case was designated complex litigation. With 698 docket entries, this was an intensively litigated dispute over the origins and ownership of one of oncology's most commercially significant drugs. Xtandi ultimately generated billions in revenue for Medivation before its acquisition by Pfizer for $14 billion in 2016.
